Can You Spray Paint A Fire Pit

A Fire Pit Makeover - roomfortuesday.comThis will exist our 3rd summer using our fire pit, which I really beloved! It works swell, I'chiliad still into the aesthetic, it fits our patio infinite well, and it's very convenient because information technology runs on gas. However, the fire pit has seen meliorate days. I'll acknowledge, the first summer we got it, Emmett & I were toasting marshmallows, and in an endeavour to go the sticky residuum of the mallow off of the metal skewer, HE SCRAPED IT ON THE Burn PIT. Metal to metallic… it was a bad sound. You should have seen my face. Haha! I accept no idea what he was thinking, but information technology scratched up the surface pretty badly, revealing white etched lines. I used some touch up paint to try to fix it, just the pigment didn't match that well, which honestly made information technology look worse. Fast forward to the side by side summer, I let it get and just lived with it… y'all know, chosen it "patina". This past winter, the cover (we cover our outdoor furniture during the snowy months), ripped during a storm. The burn pit went most of the wintertime without a cover and the clothing was looking pretty bad. As I pulled our patio together this spring, I decided to ready the fire pit once and for all! If you're interested to run into how yous can easily makeover any fire pit, this mail service is for you. A Fire Pit Makeover - roomfortuesday.comLet'south have a peek at the before, shall nosotros? Exercise yous run into the touch on-up paint over Emmett's etchings at twelve o'clock? Information technology's honestly less noticeable now that the residue of the surface has been scratched as as bad over the winter. Between droppings, branches, stormy weather, and our dogs, it looked pretty crude. This is what I used for the makeover…

SUPPLIES + TOOLS:
  • Krylon High Heat Spray Paint– I used flat black
  • Krylon Snap & Spray Handle– this makes painting so much easier and more precise
  • A sander of some sort- I used this Dewalt Orbit Sander
  • 100 dust sandpaper, followed by 320 grit sandpaper
  • Towels- for wiping
  • Masking record

A Fire Pit Makeover - roomfortuesday.com Step 1 // Sand. In an effort to brand this last for awhile and to eliminate the deeper etchings, I decided to give the burn down pit a actually practiced sanding prior to painting information technology. I used our cordless orbit sander to make quick piece of work of the projection. I started with 100 grit sandpaper, then moved to a 320 grit for a smoothen cease.

A Fire Pit Makeover - roomfortuesday.com Pace two // Wipe it clean. Before painting, you'll want to wipe the surface really well, removing any debris or residue from sanding. I just used lather & water and a towel, then I allowed it to dry completely.

A Fire Pit Makeover - roomfortuesday.com Step iii // Mask it off. I advisedly masked off the electrical and gas components.. the center portion, also as the control console and knobs. Once everything is masked off- y'all're ready to paint! Sparse, fifty-fifty coats is key. This has great coverage and you can layer as many coats as you demand, but my burn pit simply required 1 coat.

A Fire Pit Makeover - roomfortuesday.com Step four // Spray paint. I used Krylon's Loftier Heat spray paint in apartment black. This paint withstands very high temperatures (upwardly to 600° F)  and protects against rust. It's an awesome product for very hot surfaces- burn down features like a fire pit, fireplace, or wood stove, grills, etc.

This actually isn't the first time I've used this paint… who remembers our previous lawn? I painted the faux veneer brick fire pit a beautiful white color for an updated, upkeep-friendly look. This burn down pit only required ane coat of pigment, so I didn't even use the entire tin can. Hither it is drying, pictured below. I left it to dry for a couple hours while I ran errands, which was more than plenty time.

A Fire Pit Makeover - roomfortuesday.com Step 5 // Reassemble. Luckily, my fire pit didn't require much reassembly. I did remove the volcanic rock, then I could hit the inside with a fresh glaze of paint. I also scrubbed information technology actually well!

A Fire Pit Makeover - roomfortuesday.comThe terminal step was to add together the rocks back into the eye portion of the pit. Doesn't information technology look and then much better? It feels new over again!

A Fire Pit Makeover - roomfortuesday.comDesire to meet the after? That's patently my favorite part of whatsoever skilful makeover- putting the completed project to good use.

A Fire Pit Makeover - roomfortuesday.comI'thousand thinking nosotros have many more than years sitting around this burn pit, enjoying laughs, good conversation, warmth, our cute patio, and of class toasting marshmallows… although Emmett will non be allowed to apply the skewers. Ha! I'm simply halfway joking.

A Fire Pit Makeover - roomfortuesday.comAccept you ever had to use high heat spray paint? Exercise you lot take a burn pit of your own? It's a identify nosotros always end up gathering effectually. It might be my favorite piece of patio furniture! There's something about the warmth and ambiance on those cool Utah summer nights that I actually love. We've spent hours around this fire pit and I'1000 looking forward to making more memories this year. For more than Krylon project ideas and inspiration, click here.
